Just a quick update. I have been super busy this week with lots of non-photography related work, but after a few long days of being stuck behind the computer, I took a break, to learn a bit of Time Lapse Photography. It has always amazed me, and my good friend Marcus Maschwitz shot the Zebra & Giraffe video (watch in HD) using this technique and I really wanted to try it out.

Time Lapse Photography, is basically the technique of shooting a whole lot of photos over a predetermined time and stitching them together to make a video. Besides the fact that the quality of these videos far surpasses what HD will ever be, the technique and fun that goes into making them, make them ever more appealing.

My video is only 15 seconds long, but just to put it into perspective, to get this 15 seconds of video took 360 photos – 1 photo every 10 seconds – in an hour. Now the timing can be as long or short as you want it to be, and it all depends on what you want your final “video” to be like that determines what and how long for you shoot.

The video that I shot, was my first attempt and is really simple, but it was interesting to make, and brings me back to the days of film, because you never know what its really going to come out like until you have finished.

Here is the video – let me know what you think. The quality is not that great, but the size of the HD Video was well in the 200mb range and our wonderful ADSL in South Africa caused me some nightmares that day.

As soon as I have some more time on my hands, and a bit more money, I am going to invest in some decent motorized tripods and rigs to learn more with pan/scan and other Time Lapse techniques.

Lastly, I did an interview on Friday for Angel’s Weddings, so if you have not yet read the interview, or have some time on your hands, I would love it, if you gave it a read.

I have been sifting through thousands and thousands of photos that I have stored on my ever growing hard-drive and disk collection of all my photograph backups, while I get my images ready to update this site, and came across this photo, which I shot of my now 5 month old Mini Daschund, Troy, shortly after we got him.

Troy is “my” little boy and has a fondness for me that is hard to understand, where as Maxx (our Mini Yorkie), is more Jane’s little boy. Troy has the coolest nature I have ever come across in any dog. He will happily sit on the backrest of the couch and just stare at me while I cook dinner, or while I sit outside, and is ALWAYS happy to see me when I get home, even if I went out for 1 minute to fetch the post.

With things being a bit rough and unstable at the moment, as they always tend to be around this time of year, he is my is my little knight in shining armor and pushes me to keep trying and to never give up. No matter how tough things are, he never is unhappy, well maybe when we go out, but there is a lesson to be learned in this I am sure.

Thank you Troy.

I have been meaning to get my photographic portfolio and blog back up and running, but have had no internet and couldn’t come up with a design that I was happy with. After 4 different designs and playing around with what should be loaded and what shouldn’t, I have finally gone back to what I feel is best for me – a minimalist approach.

I will most likely tweak this design a bit as the time goes by but for now, this will do. I am still busy uploading photos to the portfolio section, so if you see any missing images, or things that are a little out of whack, don’t stress too much.

If you come across any issues/layout problems in any Window’s based browser, please let me know so that I can fix them.

I will write more a bit later this coming week with an update as well as a few photos, but for now I will leave you with this photo, which I shot in mid-November last year at Blouberg Beach.
